Google announced the release of Chrome 92 today, which arrives with new privacy protection and battery-saving features.

“For most people, internet browsers like Chrome act as a window to the web, where you can read the latest news, find the perfect gift, or finally cross that task off your to-do list,” Google’s Audrey An writes in the announcement post. “And when you browse the web from A to Z, you definitely want an experience that offers peace of mind.”

Here’s what’s new.

Simpler per-site permissions. Chrome now makes it easier to track and control the permissions any site has: Just select the lock icon in the left of the address bar. (Interestingly, Google also notes that it will add the ability to delete the current site from your browsing history in a coming release.) This feature is available now in Chrome for Android phones, and it will come to other platforms in future releases.

More Chrome Actions. Google added Actions to Chrome in late 2020, giving users a way to type simple commands in the address bar (“delete history,” “edit passwords,” and so on) to complete actions more easily. (I assume it uses Zork parser technology.) in Chrome 92, Google has added several new actions, including “safety check,” “manage security settings,” “manage sync.”

Improved Site isolation and phishing detection. With Chrome 92, Google is expanding Site Isolation to cover a broader range of sites, as well as extensions, and a nice side-effect is that doing so improves Chrome’s performance. Additionally, thanks to new improvements in image processing, phishing detection is now 50 times faster and drains less battery.
