Apple Announces Apple News+, Its New Magazine Subscription Service

Posted March 25, 2019 | Apple | Apple News | Apple News Plus | Windows

Apple is launching its news subscription service today: Apple News+. After the company acquired digital magazine subscription service Texture back in 2018, this was a no-brainer.

Apple News+ will be integrated into the Apple News app. Apple says the company’s Apple News app is the #1 news app with millions of articles being read every month.

The company’s new subscription service will allow Apple device owners to get access to magazines and news for a monthly subscription right from Apple News. It’s essentially a Netflix for Magazines.

Apple News+ will highlight magazines in interesting ways, with things like digital live covers that animate the covers for a new magazine issue, for example. You will be able to swipe between different articles within an issue as well. The design of the service is designed in a way to offer an immersive reading experience regardless of if you are on an iPhone or an iPad. There are different ways to browse throughout the service, including finding the entire catalog. Apple News+ will also highlight different magazines through things like First Look, and more.

You will get access to around 300 magazines on the service. Apple is announcing some major publishers that will also be part of its new news subscription as well, though a lot of big-name publishers are missing from the list. It will include news from publishers like theSkimm, TechCrunch, The Cut, Los Angeles Times, The Star, and The Wall Street Journal.

Apple is also promising complete privacy with the new service, which means advertisers won’t be able to track you. That means what you read about on Apple News or Apple News+ won’t follow you elsewhere on the internet.

Apple News+ will be available for $9.99 per month (with the first month being free), giving you access to all the magazines and news publishers. The service works with Apple’s Family Sharing system so you only have to pay once and everyone else in your family will get access to the same magazines and news. It will be available in the United States and Canada. It will be coming to Australia and Europe, starting with the UK, later in the year.
