Your Phone Now Lets You Send Messages From Your Windows 10 PC

Posted September 7, 2018 | Android | Windows | Windows 10 | Your Phone

Microsoft is shipping a new update to the Your Phone app to Windows Insiders. The company is adding a major new feature to the app with today’s update, expanding the app’s functionality to new levels.

With today’s update, users can now sync their messages from their phone with their Windows 10 PC. This means you can read your existing conversations, and even send messages right from your Windows 10 PC. You can add emojis, send pictures, and more using the Your Phone app to send messages through your phone. The app supports group conversations as well and lets you write messages with your stylus through Windows Ink which is pretty cool.

But here’s the thing: this feature is only limited to Android phones. And that shouldn’t be a surprise, too. Apple’s iOS is very locked down and not so open, and Microsoft simply doesn’t have access to the resources to actually build the same feature for iPhone owners. This also isn’t the first Your Phone feature that doesn’t work for iPhone users — the ability to sync photos, for example, is only available to Android users as well. Ah well.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has tried enabling syncing messages between your phone and PC. The feature was a mess in the past, completely flawed with reliability and performance issues. Microsoft’s latest take on the feature will hopefully work better, though I will have to try it out myself to see exactly how reliable and fast the feature works. I am not going to have high hopes, though.
