Your Phone for Android Supports Cellular Data Sync Now

Posted May 21, 2019 | Android | Mobile | Windows | Windows 10 | Your Phone

The latest update to the Your Phone Companion app for Android has added a much-needed new feature: The ability to sync over cellular data.

“Happy to announce the rollout of the number one feature you have been asking for,”
Microsoft’s Roberto Bojorquez tweeted. “Your Phone now supports sync over mobile data! No need to have your phone connected to Wi-Fi anymore for messaging, photos, and notifications.”

Previously, Your Phone only worked over Wi-Fi, and at first, your Windows 10-based PC and Android handset had to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. (Later, the app was updated so that your PC and phone could be on different Wi-Fi networks as well.) Now, with the latest version of the Your Phone Companion app for Android, you can sync your text messages and most recent photos over cellular data as well.

This feature is opt-in for obvious reasons. To enable it, open Your Phone Companion on your handset and navigate to Settings > Sync over mobile data.

In addition to this change, Microsoft also updated the Your Phone Companion app to the new Fluent design seen in recent icons changes for the Office and OneDrive apps as well. Future versions of the app in Windows 10 version 1903 will enable screen mirroring, SMS GIF and image support and more, Microsoft says.
