You Can Now Stream Games From Consoles or the Cloud to Windows 10

Microsoft today released a major update to the Xbox app for Windows 10 that supports game streaming from an Xbox console or the cloud.

“Today, we’re opening up new possibilities for you to remotely play console games on your Windows 10 PCs (or later) with updates to the Xbox app, including support for playing Xbox Game Pass games from the cloud [and] playing games directly from your console with Xbox remote play,” Microsoft’s Jason Beaumont announced.

This functionality, which Microsoft had previously advertised as a feature of Windows 11, means that gamers can finally access console remote play from Xbox Series X|S, a feature that’s been missing since those consoles launched in November 2020. (Xbox One support was already in place.) More broadly, it means that Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming users can now game from their PCs without having to first install games locally.

Indeed, the Xbox Cloud Gaming bit might be the most interesting. Now, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers (a requirement for Cloud Gaming) in 22 countries can play games directly from the cloud on Windows 10 (and, soon, Windows 11).

Games stream at 1080p/60 fps, Microsoft says.
