Windows 10’s much-awaited Timeline feature is finally coming to users part of the Windows Insider program. Redmond today released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 17063 to Insiders in the Fast Ring, bringing the Timeline experience to Windows 10 users for the first time. Timeline was initially expected to ship with the Fall Creators Update earlier this year, but it didn’t make the cut. It’s now set for an early 2018 release with Windows 10 Redstone 4.

But of course, if you are an Insider running the latest build, you can try out the new experience right away. Timeline is a brand new experience in Windows 10 that keeps track of your apps, documents, websites, files, and more from the last 30 days — effectively making it possible to jump back in time. Timeline is integrated into the Task View in Windows 10, but you can still create new virtual desktops and switch between different desktops from the upgraded Task View. Timeline also comes with an option to show the top/most frequent activities only as well.

Timeline comes with a nifty little search feature where you can type in the name of an app, or a file to instantly find something you were working on before and pick up where you left off. Timeline is also supposed to work between your Windows 10 devices, so if you start working on a PowerPoint presentation on your laptop and then move to your desktop, Windows 10 will automagically ask you if you want to continue where you left off. Windows 10’s Pick Up Where You Left Off feature hasn’t been particularly reliable for me in the past, but I will give it another shot now that the Timeline experience is finally here.
