Facebook’s WhatsApp is giving users more control over who can add them to group chats. WhatsApp group chats can be all fun and games before a stranger adds you a to a random group chat and get spammed with offensive messages.

To fix that issue, WhatsApp is giving users control over exactly who can add them to group chats. The feature first launched a while ago but it was only limited in India. With the launch this week, the feature is coming to all users on Android and iOS.

You can allow everyone to add you to groups, or just your contacts, and even better: all your contacts except someone people. The feature is essentially “disabled” by default, but WhatsApp does inform you of the feature pretty nicely. So for example, if you get added to a group chat by someone who’s not on your contacts list, you can tap on a link that will take you to these new settings.
