Users report SD card issues on new MacBook Pro

Posted December 7, 2021 | Mac

Following reports at the end of November that some users were finding that their M1 Max MacBook Pro was not charging, now some new MacBook Pro owners are reporting issues with certain SD cards not being read by their new Mac.

We have tested this and haven’t been able to reproduce it yet (some tests with other card types and brands are still pending). However several users have indicated that some SD cards aren’t recognised and can’t be accessed, some are only recognised hesitantly, others produce very slow transfer speeds, some cause Finder crashes, and a few would not eject at all and only with an error.

The reports, which are on the MacRumors forum, do not confirm whether the issue affects certain manufacturers or capacities more often. One of the users reports the problem while using Sandisk cards (XC and HC), which he has formatted in his camera.

According to those affected, Apple is aware of the problem and has promised a software update. But some users who had their MacBook Pro replaced report that there were no more problems afterwards, so it could also be due to the hardware.

Despite this, we still think that the 14in MacBook Pro and 16in MacBook Pro are great machines. Read our reviews here: 14in MacBook Pro and 16in MacBook Pro.
