Stadia Can Now Stream Directly to YouTube

Posted December 8, 2020 | Google Stadia | Windows

When Google announced Stadia over one year ago, it promised that the game streaming service would one day allow direct streaming to YouTube, a key integration and benefit of the Google ecosystem. That day has arrived.

At least it is according to 9to5Google, which first noticed that this feature has been added to Stadia’s Live streaming options pane, alongside the previous method, which lets you use third-party software to stream to YouTube and other services. The news was confirmed by other tech blogs, but when I checked Stadia this morning, I saw only that the feature was “Coming soon.”

Since I can’t get into the interface yet, I’ll need to rely on others to explain what’s available. 9to5Google says that the direct-to-YouTube streaming options lets you choose between various audio capture settings (game audio, your voice, and in-game chat; game audio and your voice only; and so on), and it will display the viewer count onscreen while you’re playing. You still need a second device to access YouTube chat during the game.

Google hasn’t officially confirmed the update, but the firm told The Verge that the feature is arriving for all Stadia users sometime today, December 8. I assume you need a paid Stadia Pro subscription to use this, just as you do to access 4K gameplay.
