Hidden inside today’s Redstone 3 build is a postponed feature we’ve all been waiting for: My People.

The bad news? It’s not ready for prime time yet.

You may recall, My People was that people-centric sharing and communication experience announced for Creators Update but ultimately pushed to Redstone 3. (Paul has a full breakdown of that My People demo back in October.)

Today’s build confirms that My People is still a thing and is still being worked on. And with a bunch of ninja work, I was able to get this feature powered up and running.

My People starts with the People button in the Taskbar. OK, the button isn’t actually embedded in the Taskbar but rather lives inside an old-school Desk Band that can be turned on or off, and even pushed around to each edge of the screen.

Clicking the button reveals the People fly-out (with an odd Windows 10 Mobile look and feel), that greets you with an out-of-box experience and clicking Get Started reveals People and Apps pivots.

The People pivot shows a list of suggested people to pin to your Taskbar, based on your frequency of interaction and other factors. The Apps pivot shows “connected” apps – those that support loading specialized views for the My People experience – like People, Skype (preview), and Mail.

You can also browse for, select, and pin anyone the suggestion feature missed by clicking the More contacts button.

Everything else, like pinned contacts and sharing, weren’t functional at time of writing, but I’ll keep working on it this weekend and update you accordingly.
