Snap, the makers of Snapchat, is teaming up with Amazon to introduce a new Visual Search feature.

The companies are teaming up to make it easier for users to find any product they see in real life and shop them on Amazon. The feature works by letting users scan a product or a barcode with the Snapchat camera, which will then talk to Amazon’s servers, and show any relevant products. From there, you can tap on a product or see more results on the Amazon app or Amazon.com to complete the purchase. It’s only in limited testing for now, with a broader rollout planned for the future.

The visual search feature works very much like how Snapchat can detect Snapcodes, or detect what music is playing. “Snapchat has always been the fastest way to communicate, and now it’s the fastest way to shop,” the company said in a blog post, announcing the new integration.

Snap’s partnership with Amazon is quite an interesting move from the social network. Snapchat already has its own store where you can find Snapchat merch, and the integration with Amazon expand things a lot more. It’s not clear whether Snap is getting a cut of the revenue Amazon is making through its app, though that is quite likely. With Facebook’s Instagram planning to launch a standalone app for shopping, Snap and Amazon’s partnership here could get much more serious in the near-future.
