OnePlus 8 Series Specs Leak

Posted April 8, 2020 | Android | Mobile | OnePlus | OnePlus 8 | OnePlus 8 Pro | OnePlus 8 Series | Windows

Next week, OnePlus will announce its OnePlus 8 series, meaning there will be two handsets, the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. The company has proactively discussed a lot of information about these devices, but now the full specifications have leaked.

According to Ishan Agarwal, the OnePlus 8 will be powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.0 solid-state storage, and will feature a 6.55-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display that is capable of a 90 Hz refresh rate and 5G compatibility. It will come in Glow, Black, and Green variants, and will provide a triple camera system with 48 MP, 16 MP, and 2 MP lenses, plus a 16 MP selfie camera on the front. The battery is 4300 mAH, and the device will ship with a 30-watt Warp Charge 30T fast charger.

The OnePlus 8 Pro, meanwhile, will improve on that by providing a 6.78-inch Quad HD display with 120 Hz refresh rate capabilities, faster LPDDR5 RAM (in the same capacities), a quad-camera system with 48 MP, 48 MP, 8 MP, and 5 MP lenses, a 4510 mAH battery, IP68 waterproofing, 30-watt wireless charging, and 3-watt reverse wireless charging. It will be available in Black, Blue, and Green.

Separately, OnePlus has discussed some of these features. It said that the OnePlus 8 series will support a 120 Hz display, the Snapdragon 865 SoC, LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.0 storage, and that the upcoming lineup would be 5G-enabled, for example.

“We’ve been investing in 5G for several years and we see this as the direction going forward and one we’re very much committed,” OnePlus CEO and co-founder Pete Lau said. “I think that this year again everyone should expect a lot to look forward to in 5G products with a reasonable price.” (That said, prices of the 5G-capable OnePlus 8 series models will no doubt be higher than those of last year’s OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T.)

The company also said that the OnePlus 8 Series matches or beat leading competitors like the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the iPhone 11 Pro Max in the crucial DisplayMate display tests, which revealed that the firm is using Samsung displays.

“This time we push the refresh rate to 120Hz, two times that of the mainstream 60Hz displays,” Lau said. “On top of that, we added breakthrough improvements in offering the smoothest video playback thanks to MEMC technology, the most authentic color on any smartphone, and high brightness controls.”

OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 8 series virtually next week, on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 am ET. You can tune in at its website. In the meantime, I’ve been reevaluating the OnePlus 7T, one of my favorite handset releases of 2019, and will have a write-up soon. I’m hoping to review the OnePlus 8 series as well.
