Netflix is adding spatial audio support to its $19.99 Premium plan. As of today, spatial audio is available on over 700 titles including Stranger Things, The Watcher, Wednesday, and Knives Out: Glass Onion, and Netflix is adding a spatial audio badge to let subscribers easily identify which movies and shows support the technology.

“Netflix spatial audio brings an immersive, cinematic sound experience on any device with no additional equipment required,” explained Rishu Arora Director of Product Management. Netflix’s Premium plan already provides access to superior Dolby Atmos audio (on compatible hardware) as well as 4K resolution and HDR/Dolby Vision on compatible TVs or monitors.

Another change coming to the Netflix Premium plan today is the ability to download Netflix content on up to six devices (previously four). However, you can still only watch content on up to 4 devices at a time with a Netflix Premium plan.

After launching its $6.99/month Basic with Ads plan last fall, it’s good to see Netflix giving some new perks to its Premium plan. If other streaming services such as Disney+ or Apple TV+ don’t restrict 4K quality or HDR to a premium tier, Netflix certainly hopes that spatial audio support on all speakers will convince more subscribers to upgrade.

In other news, Netflix has started detailing how it will start restricting password sharing in an FAQ. The company will use IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to identify devices within a household, and it will require people who travel and others who don’t live with you to verify their devices periodically.
