Microsoft’s new cross-platform developer solution is barreling towards completion, with the framework hitting the Release Candidate 2 (RC2) milestone this week.

“This release is covered by a ‘go-live’ support policy, meaning .NET MAUI is supported by Microsoft for your production apps,” Microsoft’s David Ortinau writes. “The team has been focused on stabilizing the toolkit, resolving the high impact issues you have been helping us to identify through your valuable feedback.”

.NET MAUI—or Multi-Platform App UI—is the successor to Xamarin Forms, and it allows developers to create apps that run on Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone/iPad using a single Visual Studio project with C# and XAML. Or, at least it will: until the final version is released, developers interested in exploring MAUI need to use a very specific preview version of Visual Studio 2022—17.2 Preview 5—and install the .NET MAUI (preview) option in the Mobile Development with .NET workload. Presumably, this will be moved into the stable versions of Visual Studio when MAUI launches next month.

Oddly, RC2 introduces a new feature, too, and it’s a big one: Tizen platform support.

“Tizen.NET has long enabled .NET applications to run on millions of Samsung TVs, phones, and other devices running Tizen,” Ortinau explains. “Today, Tizen joins Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows as one of the target platforms you can reach with .NET MAUI.
