Mobile World Congress, better known as MWC, is usually a big event for phone makers. It’s the world’s biggest phone show, and lots of companies show off their latest phones at the event.

This year, though, MWC is getting cancelled. The event was scheduled to start on the 24th of February in Barcelona, but due to increasing concerns over coronavirus, the organiser of the event GSMA is cancelling it.

The move comes after multiple companies pulled out of the show due to coronavirus concerns. This includes companies like Nvidia, Intel, Sony, Amazon, LG, ZTE, Sprint, AT&T, etc.

GSMA CEO John Hoffman said the coronavirus outbreak has made it “impossible” to hold the event as originally planned. “With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event,” Hoffman told Bloomberg.

It’s not clear whether MWC 2020 will be rescheduled for a later date.
