Microsoft is planning to hold a virtual event on April 5 to discuss how Windows powers the future of hybrid work. The event will feature Windows Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer Panos Panay, which suggests that we may hear some Windows 11 news.

The teaser for the event says that we’re going to “find out how Windows propels the business of our customers forward from the client to the cloud.” The target audience is definitely commercial customers, though there may be some interesting announcements for consumers, too.

This event will follow the release of the first big update for Windows 11 in February, and the company has already started testing new productivity features including revamped focus experiences and the addition of Search highlights in Windows Search. However, we could hear about new updates for various Microsoft 365 apps as well.

With Windows 11, Microsoft introduced a new Chat app powered by Microsoft Teams for consumers, which uses a more modern architecture than the regular Teams app for commercial customers. Microsoft said at the time that this “Teams 2.0” architecture would eventually make its way to other platforms, so there’s hope for the regular Teams app to also make the jump from Electron to Edge Webview2.

ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley also suggested that this event could be a good opportunity for Microsoft to discuss its “One Outlook” email client (also codenamed “Project Monarch) that is set to replace the UWP-based Mail and Calendar apps on Windows PCs.
