Microsoft Splits Ignite Into Two Events

Posted August 6, 2020 | Microsoft | Microsoft Ignite | Windows

Microsoft will still hold a virtual Ignite conference in September as planned, but it will now hold a second Ignite in early 2021 as well.

“We’re excited to announce that we’ve pivoted Microsoft Ignite from a week-long, in-person event to two global events that are free, 48-hour digital gatherings,” Microsoft chief marketing officer Chris Capossela writes in the announcement post.

Ignite 2020 will be held September 22 through 24, 2020, and then a second Ignite will be held sometime in early 2021, date to be determined.

Additionally, Microsoft is canceling its Microsoft Ignite Tour events, which have traditionally been held in different cities around the world in the wake of the normal in-person Ignite conference.

“Instead, Microsoft Ignite will bring all global participants together and include the opportunity for local community meetups, will have language localization, and participants will also be able to get skill building with Microsoft Learn and certifications,” Capossela notes, adding that the second Ignite will not replace Build 2021. “We’ll continue to host Microsoft Build as the forum for our developer communities to come together,” he says.
