Microsoft Releases February 2022 Patch Tuesday Updates for Windows 10 and 11

Posted February 8, 2022 | Patch Tuesday | Windows | Windows 10 | Windows 11

Microsoft has released today the February 2022 “Patch Tuesday” updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11. For Windows 11 users, this isn’t the first “major” update for the OS that Microsoft previously teased for this month, as today’s KB5010342 patch only seems to bring security fixes for the OS.

We don’t have a release date yet, but Windows 11 is set receive a couple of new features later this month including a preview of Android Apps and the Windows Subsystem for Android. Microsoft has worked with Intel and Amazon to bring Android apps to Windows 11, and Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channel have been already been able to test approximately 50 Android apps during the preview.

This first big update for Windows 11 will also bring several taskbar improvements such as call mute and unmute buttons, easier window sharing, and a new weather widget. A redesigned NotePad Notepad and a new Media Player app that will replace Groove Music will also ship with this update.

If Windows 10 users won’t be getting the same new features as Windows 11 users, they can still download today’s KB5010342 patch for Windows 10 versions 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2. The brief release notes only Microsoft’s Windows Support site only highlighted a fix for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) issue.
