Microsoft is “Unifying” Win32 and UWP

Posted May 14, 2020 | Build 2020 | Dev | Microsoft Build | UWP | Win32 | Windows | Windows 10

Well, here’s the final nail in the UWP coffin: At Build 2020, Microsoft will finally describe how it plans to move past this platform disaster.

There’s not a lot of information about these plans yet. But Microsoft posted its Build session list today and I immediately searched the site to see whether there were any answers coming on the future of Windows client development. There are.

“Learn how the Windows app platform is evolving and unifying Win32 and UWP so your present and future apps can easily target 1 billion+ Windows devices,” the description of a session titled Unifying and evolving the Windows app platform reads.

This session will be delivered by Jesse Bishop, who is described as a principal program manager lead on the Microsoft developer ecosystem and platform team.

I’ll keep looking to see if there are any other relevant Build 2020 sessions.

UPDATE. Here are a few.
