Microsoft is Retiring SwiftKey for iOS on October 5

Posted September 28, 2022 | iOS | Microsoft | Mobile | SwiftKey | Windows

Microsoft is sunsetting its Swiftkey keyboard on iOS on October 5. The app will be removed from the App Store on that date, though it will continue to work for users who have already installed it on their iPhones.

Switfkey is a keyboard maker that Microsoft acquired back in February 2016. At the time, the keyboard was being used on more than 300 million Android and iOS devices. Swiftkey’s keyboard technology was eventually used to improve the touch keyboard on Windows 10 PCs.

If Swiftkey on Android was last updated on September 15, the iOS had not received any update for over a year. The writing was already on the wall, and a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed today to ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley that the iOS was being deprecated.

“Microsoft will continue support for SwiftKey Android as well as the underlying technology that powers the Windows touch keyboard,” Microsoft said in a statement attributed to Chris Wolfe, Director of Product Management at SwiftKey.

The company didn’t share more details about why the iOS app was being retired. Anyway, if you really like using Swiftkey on your iPhone, you should make sure not to uninstall it after October 5.
