Microsoft Brings Loop Components to New Places (Updated)

Posted October 12, 2022 | Cloud | Ignite 2022 | Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Loop | Windows

UPDATE: This post was updated with a clarification from Microsoft. –Paul

It’s been a year since Microsoft introduced Loop components, which were based on the Fluid Framework that the company announced back at Build 2019. At its Ignite 2022 conference today, the software giant announced that it’s ready to bring Loop components to new places.

Until now, Loop components have been available in Microsoft Teams, where they allow colleagues to collaborate right inside a chat message. Loop components can take various forms including bulleted lists, paragraphs, and tables, which all support live co-authoring in Teams.

Today, Microsoft shared work from its developer private preview showcasing Adaptive Card-based Loop components, built with partners like SAP, that will let users access and edit business data in the flow of their work.

In addition, Microsoft is also bringing Loop components to the Word web app, Microsoft Whiteboard, and Outlook for Windows. A new Polls component type that leverages Microsoft Forms will also be available in private preview on the Word and Outlook web apps. The latter is also getting Q&A, a new Loop component type in preview.

If Microsoft is making Loop components available across more Microsoft 365 apps, a standalone Microsoft Loop app is also available in private preview. This app will let teams use workspaces, pages, and other components that will sync across Microsoft 365.
