A pair of leaked photos posted on Weibo (via Huawei Central) allegedly shows the front panel, the camera and under-display fingerprint scanner modules for the Huawei Mate 30. The images do reveal that the Mate 30 will sport a smaller notch than the one found on the premium Mate 30 Pro. The front panel has two different sized cutouts compared to the single-camera used on 2018’s Mate 20. This might indicate an improvement to the selfie camera on the upcoming model, and an upgrade to the phone’s facial recognition system.

If the photos are legit, the Mate 30 will feature a flat-screen compared to the waterfall display on the Mate 30 Pro. Pictures of the latter show that the curved edges on both sides of the display drop off at an angle believed to be 88 degrees. Looking straight at the display, users won’t be able to see any side bezels. Speaking of bezels, the ones on the Mate 30 appear to be thin on the sides with a small chin and a little thicker forehead. And while the Mate 30 Pro display will reportedly have a 90Hz refresh rate, the Mate 30 most likely will stick to the typical 60Hz rate.

The Huawei Mate 30 will be powered by the manufacturer’s new Kirin 990 SoC. The other day, Huawei teased the new 7nm chipset and its upcoming unveiling September 6th at the IFA convention in Berlin. The Kirin 990 could feature an integrated 5G modem. We should see the phone equipped with a 6.5-inch 1080p (FHD+) display, 128GB of storage for the basic model, a triple camera setup on the back and a 4200mAh capacity battery.

For now, Huawei has no plans on using its own HarmonyOS on a phone, so the manufacturer is expected to pre-install the Google Play services version of Android on the Mate 30 line. The new handsets are expected to be introduced on September 19th.
