Facebook-owned Instagram has been focused a lot on online safety. The company has introduced a number of security measures in recent times to protect users on the platform from harassers and online bullying.

Back in July, Instagram introduced a new feature that asked users to think twice before posting potentially offensive comments, and it also introduced the ability to shadowban users people on your posts’ comments.

And now, Instagram is bringing the same new feature to post captions. The app will now ask users to think twice before posting a potentially offensive caption. The feature is completely powered by AI and is able to recognize different forms of bullying. Instagram says the company has seen promising results for its AI. “We’ve found that these types of nudges can encourage people to reconsider their words when given a chance,” the company said in a blog post.

Instagram will notify users when its AI thinks that the caption on their post is potentially offensive, and users have the option to learn more or share their post anyway. It’s not clear, however, if the company manually reviews captions if a user publishes a post with a potentially offensive caption. The feature is only available in select countries at the moment, and Instagram plans to roll it out globally in the coming months.
