HP’s Next Windows Mixed Reality Features Higher Resolution and Improved Comfort

Posted February 6, 2019 | Copper | Hardware | HP | HP Copper | Windows | Windows Mixed Reality

HP is working on a next-gen Windows Mixed Reality headset. The folks at Road at VR got an early look at the device, codenamed Copper.

HP’s new Windows Mixed Reality headset will have a resolution of 2160×2160 pixels per eye, and that’s actually really impressive when compared to other headsets like the Oculus Rift. In fact, the newest HTC Vive Pro only has a resolution of 1440x1660pixels per eye.

Road to VR also notes that Copper’s displays feature really good clarity, something that’s going to play a huge role in virtual reality environments. It doesn’t seem like the company has made many improvements in the field of view, sadly.

As for the design of the headset, it’s actually a lot nicer to look at than HP’s original WMR headset. The headset has been designed to be more comfortable to wear, lighter, and much nicer to look at than ever before. The device apparently feels a lot like the Oculus Rift.

Here is the thing, though: the Copper will be focused mainly on enterprise customers, much like many other WMR headsets, so it is kind of disappointing. You should still be able to purchase the headset as a regular consumer, though HP isn’t saying exactly how much it will cost or when the device will launch.
