Google wrapped up its hardware event today with a closer look at the Pixel Tablet, which is set to be released in 2023. The Pixel Tablet will use the same Tensor G2 chip as the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones, and it will also bring Google’s Material You UI to a bigger screen.

“Like your Pixel phone, the Pixel Tablet has Material You, so you can completely personalize it with a custom color palette and new color variants based on your wallpaper and lock screens. Just like your Pixel 7 and Google Pixel Watch, your tablet can be the truest representation of you,” Google said today.

Google also unveiled a new charging speaker dock for its Pixel tablet, which will provide enhanced audio and a couple of new experiences. Users will be able to access Google Assistant hands-free and set a persistent slideshow featuring pictures from Google Photos.

It almost looks like the Pixel Tablet on its Charging Speaker Dock is turning into a Nest Hub device, though that’s apparently not the case. It’s still the same Android experience, though Google said that it has continued to work with developers to optimize their apps for Android tablets and split screen use.

Google argued today that tablets often end up as neglected devices in a household, but the company hopes apps like Google Home and this charging speaker dock will change that. “The Pixel Tablet is designed to seamlessly transition from a delightful part of your home to an entertainment device you can take anywhere – making it one of the most versatile and adaptable tablets ever,” Google said today.

The company plans to share more details about the Pixel Tablet closer to its release next year. It’s been years since Google released an Android tablet, and the combination of the Tensor G2 chip, the Material You UI, and this new charging speaker dock could be an interesting proposition in a market still dominated by Apple’s iPad.
