Google’s Chromecast with Google TV 4K Receives Android 12

Posted October 17, 2022 | Chromecast | Chromecast with Google TV | Google | Google TV | Music + Videos | Windows

Google has started rolling out Android 12 to its original Chromecast with Google TV (via FlatpanelsHD). The 4K streaming stick has been running on Android 10 until now, though the cheaper Chromecast with Google TV HD that launched last month came with Android 12 out of the box.

If you own the original Chromecast with Google TV, the update to Android 12 additional settings brings additional settings for users with HDR TVs and surround sound systems. There are also new camera and mic privacy toggles to prevent apps from accessing them. The remote on the Chromecast with Google TV has a built-in mic, but you can also connect a webcam to the streaming stick via a USB-C hub.

A new frame rate matching feature is probably the biggest new feature coming with Android 12. When it’s turned on, the Chromecast with Google TV will match its output to the original frame rate of the content you’re matching. However, this feature will require apps to support it.

Android 12 on the Chromecast with Google TV also brings various bug fixes and performance improvements. To check for updates on your Chromecast for Google TV, you need to go over your profile pictures and click Settings -> System -> About -> System update.
