Google Workspace Gets its Own “Copilot” with Duet AI
At its Google I/O developer conference today, Google is catching up big time to Microsoft’s various “Copilot” announcements. Duet AI is the new name of the generative AI capabilities for Google Workspace that the company first started detailing in March.
“Duet AI already works behind the scenes in Workspace to help you write — whether it’s refining existing work or helping you get started in both Gmail and Docs. Now we’re bringing this experience to Gmail mobile,” said Aparna Pappu, GM and Vice President of Google Workspace.
Here are the main new features Duet AI for Google Workspace will provide across Google’s cloud-based productivity suite:
Image creation in Google Slides: Duet AI will be able to create original images from a simple prompt in Google Slides.
Classification tools in Google Sheets: Google’s spreadsheet app will be able to automate the classification of data and help users create custom plans for tasks and projects.
AI building blocks in Google Docs: Duet AI can now help Google Docs users to create a draft from a simple prompt, and it can also automatically include smart chips to include information about other users and locations.
Unique backgrounds in Google Meet: Duet AI will be able to create original backgrounds for video calls in Google Meet
Google Workspace enthusiasts can try these new capabilities by joining the waitlist for Workspace Labs. Google also announced today that it’s bringing its Duet AI to its cloud platform, which will offer an AI-powered collaborator and other intelligent features to customers.
