Google Touts Android App Usage on Chrome OS
In a developer-focused post, Google claims that Android app usage is up dramatically on Chromebooks and other Chrome OS devices. Better still for the firm, Chrome OS growth continues to skyrocket.
“Large screens are getting a lot of love from Android users,” Google’s Fahd Imtiaz and Sanj Nathwani write in a new end-of-year wrap-up post. “Not only has Chrome OS grown 92 percent in the past year, but there are currently more than 250 million active large-screen devices running Android around the world.”
Google also notes that Android app usage on Chrome OS is up 50 percent YOY, and that is “steadily updating” all Chromebooks to support Android 11. (Note that Google just delivered Android 12 for handsets this past quarter.) As important, it also moved the Chrome OS implementation of Android from a container to a virtual machine.
