Google Starts Selling Pixel Buds 2

Posted April 27, 2020 | Google | Hardware | Pixel Buds | Pixel Buds 2 | Windows

Google first announced its second-generation Pixel Buds, the new Pixel Buds 2, back in October of last year. The new headphones are truly wireless and are a lot like Apple’s AirPods.

As promised, Google is finally starting to sell the Pixel Buds 2, and interested customers can start purchasing the new earbuds starting today. The new earbuds are available for $179 in the Clearly White finish in the United States to start with.

The new earbuds feature support for Fast Pair, making it super easy to connect to your Pixel phones (and other Android phones). The new Pixel Buds offer 5 hours on the buds themselves, and 24 hours of battery life with the wireless charging case, which is the same as the original Pixel Buds. With quick charging, you can get 2 hours of listening time in 10 minutes.

There are some interesting features on the Pixel Buds as well. Google notes that the earbuds include a special sensor that is used to allow for clear audio when you are making calls. “To give you clear calls, even in noisy and windy environments, Pixel Buds combine signals from beamforming mics and a special sensor that detects when your jaw is moving. This helps so you don’t have to look for a quiet place to take a call. It’s come in particularly handy these past few weeks for me working from home with two young daughters,” said Jae Lee, Audio Systems Engineer at Google.

There’s also Adaptive Sound — a new feature that can “temporarily and subtly” adjust your volume to better match the noise in your environment. “It works kind of like auto-brightness on your phone screen: It momentarily adjusts to the world around you to make the experience of using your device a little simpler,” said Frank Li, UX Engineer at Google.

You will also be able to get real-time translations via Google Translate in the conversation mode on the Pixel Buds 2.

The new Pixel Buds 2 are available from the Google Store, AT&T, Best Buy, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon, and Walmart. Target will have the Pixel Buds in early May. Other finishes of the earbuds (Almost Black, Quite Mint, and Oh So Orange) will be available in the ‘coming months.’

As for global availability, Google says the Pixel Buds 2 will launch soon in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
