Google Photos Gets Updated Memories, New Collage Editor

Google announced a major update to Google Photos that provides an improved Memories feature and a new Collage Editor.

“When Google Photos launched Memories three years ago (almost to the day), it was the beginning of an ongoing evolution from an app where you store photos and videos to a place where you can reflect on meaningful moments,” Google’s Yael Marzan explains. “To make looking back on and sharing important moments easier, we’re rolling out the biggest update to Memories since its launch and giving you a new collage editor so you can easily make shareable creations.”

The Memories experience in Google Photos has been redesigned to be more dynamic with more videos and subtle zoom effects on still photos. (And an update coming next month will add instrumental music to some Memories.) Cinematic Photos is being updated to include music and new effects, and a new Styles feature will insert graphic art into Memories for added pop. But the biggest update, perhaps, is sharing: now you can share your Memories with friends and family on Android (coming soon to iPhone and web).

New Google Photos’ editing features are being bolstered by a new Collage Editor that helps you create shareable collages with multiple photos, a design, and a layout, and you can even edit the selected photos directly in the editor. Google One members and Pixel users can also use additional editing features like Portrait Light and HDR in collages and access more than 30 additional designs.

The updated Memories experience and Collage Editor begin rolling out in Google Photos on Android and iPhone today.
