Google Meet Is Becoming Free for Anyone With a Google Account
With the unpreceded demand for video calling apps right now, most companies are scrambling to get as many users as they can on their platform. We have seen demand for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other video calling apps increase significantly in recent months, for example.
In fact, Microsoft went as far as making Teams free to be able to better compete with Zoom. And now, Google is joining the race, too. The company announced today that it’s making Google Meet free for anyone with a Google account.
Previously, Google Meet was available only to G Suite customers, and Google is now making the service available to more people for free. The only requirement here is that you will need to have a Google account.
Like others, Google has also experienced high demand for Meet. Google Meet is getting 3 million new users every day, and its peak daily usage has apparently grown by 30x, according to the company. Meet’s daily meeting participants also surpassed the 100 million mark.
Google Meet will allow free users to make as many calls as they want, but after September 30, they will be limited to 60 minutes per call. Do note that Google is only rolling out the availability of free Meet in the coming weeks, so you may not be able to make calls using Google Meet straight away. You can sign-up to get notified once it’s available here.
