Google Is Taking Away John Legend’s Voice on Google Assistant
Google first announced it will be bringing musician John Legend’s soothing voice to Google Assistant back in 2018. John Legend’s voice arrived on Assistant back in April of 2019, and it was pretty cool.
There’s some bad news now, though: John Legend’s voice on Assistant is going away.
Google announced yesterday that John Legend’s cameo voice on Assistant will be going away on March 23rd. So if were a fan of John Legend’s cameo voice on the Assistant, you will only be able to use it for a few more days.
“#HeyGoogle, serenade me one more time.” Enjoy @JohnLegend’s cameo Google Assistant voice before it comes to an end on March 23. https://t.co/C4vAzyl3x7

John Legend’s voice on the Assistant was actually really nice, here’s how I described the experience back in 2019:
You can ask Assistant basic questions like “what’s the temperature outside?” or “tell me a joke” to hear Legend’s “silky smooth” voice. And you can also ask Legend some personal questions like “who is Chrissy Tiegen?” or “what’s your favorite type of music?” And Google says there are some “surprises” too, including for answers to questions like “Hey Google, serenade me” or “Hey Google, are we just ordinary people?”
It’s not exactly clear why Google is removing the cameo voice from the Assistant. It’s also not clear if we can expect to see more cameo voices from other celebrities in the future.
