Google Goes Truly Wireless With the New Pixel Buds

Posted October 15, 2019 | Google | Hardware | Pixel Buds | Pixel Buds 2 | Windows

Remember the Pixel Buds? They are getting revamped along with the launch of the new Pixel 4 phones. Google just took the wraps off the new Pixel Buds, and there are some pretty important updates.

First things first: the cable running between both the buds like the original Pixel Buds is no longer a thing, meaning the new Pixel Buds are truly wireless. The new Pixel Buds work a lot like Apple’s AirPods, following the footsteps of Microsoft and Amazon’s own earbuds.

Pixel Buds include around the same gesture-powered features like the original Pixel Buds, AirPods, Surface Earbuds, etc. The earbuds will automatically play/pause music when you take them off or put them back on. and you can tap on the buds to control the music playback. Google Assistant is also integrated into the buds, so you can say Hey Google whenever you want. Like the original Pixel Buds, the new Pixel Buds also feature real-time translation powered by Google Assistant. There’s also a new Dynamic Sound feature that automatically tunes the audio depending on if you are indoors or outside, for example.

Google says the new Pixel Buds will offer 5 hours on the buds themselves, and 24 hours of battery life with the wireless charging case, which is the same as the original Pixel Buds.

And that’s pretty much it. The new Pixel Buds doesn’t feature noise-cancellation like Amazon’s Echo Buds, or Apple’s upcoming AirPods 3, so that’s a little disappointing. Either way, the Pixel Buds 2 will sell for $179 in 2020.
