FCC Filing, Leak Reveal Google Nest Wifi Pro
An FCC filing and an inadvertent retailer leak have revealed that Wi-Fi 6E-based Google Nest Wifi Pro mesh networking hardware is coming soon. It will likely be revealed at Google’s October hardware event.
According to a leak at B&H, the “Google Nest Wifi Pro 6E Router” will cost $199 for a single node, with a two-pack going for $299.99 and a three-pack costing $399.99. Looking at the Google Store today, I can see that the Nest Wifi costs $169 for a single node and $269/349 for two/three nodes. And the older Google Wifi (which I’m using) costs $99 for a single node and $149 for a three-node system. So the price is going up and that Pro branding suggests that the current Nest Wifi will remain in the market.
That said, any Wi-Fi 6E-based network should offer a significant improvement over Wi-Fi 6 or 5: you get a third network band for starters, improving connectivity quality for multiple devices, and the potential speeds go up to 9.6 Gbps, compared to 2.2 Gbps for Wi-Fi 6.
According to B&H, the Nest Wifi Pro will be available in four colors: Snow (white), Linen (light brown), Fog (light blue), and Lemongrass (light yellow-green). Unfortunately, there are no images of the product yet.
This one is personally interesting because I’ve been using a Google Wifi mesh network since we moved to Pennsylvania five years ago. For the most part, I’m very happy with it, but it’s based on Wi-Fi 5, and I’ve been waiting for a Wi-Fi 6E upgrade. So this could be it. (I might buy one for the Mexico City apartment as well since that router is also based on Wi-Fi 5. We’ll see.)
