Curtains Brings the Windows XP Nostalgia to Windows 10

Posted April 21, 2020 | Curtains | Windows | Windows 10

One of my favorite memories of Windows XP is that there were dozens of applications that would let you skin the OS and tweak it to your exact specifications. Following Vista, 7, and now 10, the customization scene isn’t nearly as ripe as it once was but there are still plenty of options to enhance the OS.

Stardock played a big part of helping turn Windows XP into a personalized playground and today, they are announcing Curtains, a new application that lets you apply themes to Windows 10.

The application lets you apply color themes to the OS that are also easy to build: Stardock says that the themes can change anything that the current dark/light themes can alter. And unlike WindowBlinds, it should be much easier to create new themes for Curtains.

With a few clicks, you can bring back the Windows XP nostalgia. As you can see from the images in this post, it’s quite easy to make your OS look like 2001 all over again. But unlike 2001, this theme can take advantage of different DPI settings by leveraging the support built-in with Dark/Light themes of Windows 10.

Curtains will be going into beta on Stardock’s Object Desktop suite of Windows enhancements tools next week (late April 2020).  A stand-alone version is expected later in the Spring.
