AMD Announces New Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop CPUs

Posted August 30, 2022 | AMD | AMD Ryzen | Hardware | Ryzen 7000 | Windows

AMD has just unveiled its new Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs that use the company’s brand new Zen 4 architecture. Among the first four Ryzen 7000 CPU models AMD announced yesterday, the Ryzen 7950X will offer up to 16 cores, 32 threads, and 5.7 GHz speeds.

“At the top of the stack, the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 7950X processor offers up to 57% better content creation performance in V-Ray Render compared to the competition. Meanwhile, even the 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 7600X processor offers an average of 5% faster gaming performance across select titles than the competitor’s flagship gaming processor,” the company explained.

For its benchmarks, AMD compared its Ryzen 7000 Series desktop CPUs with Intel’s flagship Core i9-12900K CPU. The company also claims that its flagship Ryzen 7950X is “up to 47% more energy efficient” than the aforementioned Intel chip.

Customers interested in AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors will need to buy a new motherboard with AMD’s new AM5 socket platform. It supports top-of-the-line features including dual-channel DDR5 memory and up to 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes for graphics and storage.

AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 Series desktop GPUs will launch on September 27, and the base Ryzen 7600X model will start at $299. New motherboards with support for the AM5 platform will also be available in September starting at $125.
